From a kill shelter to a forever home, Charlie's journey is a reminder of what's possible when people refuse to give up.
When Danny & Ron's Rescue first learned about Charlie, the outlook wasn't good.
The Dachshund had been hit by a car and suffered a devastating spinal injury that left his entire back end paralyzed. He had no feeling in his hind legs and had landed in a kill shelter with an uncertain future.
For many dogs, that would have been the end of the story.
For Charlie, it was only the beginning.
A Second Chance
Danny & Ron's Rescue stepped in and gave Charlie the opportunity every rescue dog deserves: a chance.
The road ahead was anything but easy.
Charlie underwent spinal surgery in an effort to restore function and mobility. While the surgery helped, recovery would require months of dedication and rehabilitation.
There were therapy sessions. There was swimming. There was treadmill work.
And there were countless hours spent helping Charlie rebuild strength and confidence one step at a time.
Slowly, progress came. Charlie regained the ability to walk. But he still wasn't the dog everyone hoped he could be.
Progress, But Not Yet Comfortable
By the winter of 2026, Charlie had made tremendous strides. He could move around on his own and enjoy daily life again. But something still wasn't right.
His back end remained weak and unstable. He would wobble, struggle with balance, and occasionally lose his footing.
"He could walk around, but he had quite a bit of hitch in his giddy-up," recalls Ron Danta.
After everything Charlie had already endured, everyone wanted to see him not just survive, but thrive.
That's when Ron decided to start Charlie on Summit Animal Health's Joint & Mobility liquid.
A Noticeable Change
The change didn't happen overnight. But after about two and a half weeks, Ron began noticing something different.
Charlie's gait started to improve.
His hind end appeared stronger.
He seemed more comfortable moving around.
Most importantly, he started acting more like a dog again.
Before long, Charlie was running around the backyard with renewed confidence and energy. For a dog who once couldn't feel his hind legs, those moments meant everything.

The Best Part of the Story
Every rescue hopes for the same ending.
A home.
Not a temporary stop. Not another foster.
A family.
Thankfully, Charlie got exactly that.
After everything he had overcome, Charlie found a forever home with Claire W. who was ready to love him for the rest of his life.
And before Charlie left, Ron made one request.
"The first thing I did was send four boxes of Summit's product and told his new family, 'You have to make a promise. If you adopt Charlie, Charlie has to stay on this product.'"
That promise was easy to make.
Because by then, everyone had seen what Charlie was capable of.
